Nova Scotia Christmas trees go to UAE


Via the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia sent 450 Christmas trees to the United Arab Emirates for Canadians living abroad to enjoy this holiday season. Click the image below to watch a CBC News report.


Halifax Port Days 2011


The Halifax Port Authority was host to two days of business sessions and networking opportunities during its annual Port Days conference on September 14 and 15, 2011. Below, you'll find audio and video from the highlights of the conference: the Chairman's Breakfast, business sessions and the Keynote Luncheon.

Chairman's Breakfast

Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway Keith Ashfield and Garrison Brewing Co. President Brian Titus were guest speakers at the Chairman's Breakfast during Halifax Port Days 2011. Halifax Port Authority Chairman Mark MacDonald provided introductory comments.

 

 

 

Business Session One: Cargo Innovation Panel

The first of two business sessions at Halifax Port Days 2011 featured three individuals in the know regarding the most intriguing cargo growth developments harnessing technology, infrastructure and entrepreneurship. Moderated by Halifax Port Authority Manager of Business Development Patrick Bohan, the panel was comprised of Halifax Grain Elevator Limited Manager of Finance and Administration Jeff Brownlie, Nicom IT Solutions Inc. Partner Pat d'Entremont and Aqualife North America Inc. Chief Executive Officer Gordon Neal. HPA President & CEO Karen Oldfield offered opening remarks and HPA Vice-President of Business Development & Operations George Malec offered closing remarks.

 

 

 

Business Session Two: Future of Containerization

The Future of Containerization business session at Halifax Port Days 2011 looked at certain interrelationships within the containerized cargo industry that could determine its long-term potential. Moderated by Halifax Port Authority Vice-President Commercial Paul DuVoisin, the panel featured CN Vice-President Intermodal Paul Waite, NYK Line (Canada) Inc. Vice-President Sales Tim Harrington and Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. Vice-President Supply Chain & Procurement Brad Doell. HPA Vice-President of Business Development & Operations George Malec offered closing remarks.

 

 

 

Keynote Luncheon

Wal-Mart Canada Corp. Senior Vice-President of Supply Chain & Logistics Andy Ellis provided the keynote address on environmental sustainability at Halifax Port Days 2011. Halifax Port Authority Vice-President of Business Development & Operations George Malec and CN Vice-President Intermodal Paul Waite offered introductory remarks.

 

 

 

Karen Oldfield discusses Southeast Asia cargo growth with Asia Pacific Foundation


In June 2011, Halifax Port Authority President and CEO Karen Oldfield spoke with the Asia Pacific Foundation about the growth in cargo traffic between the Port of Halifax and Southeast Asia. About half the cargo traffic through the Port of Halifax is imported from or exported to Southeast Asia. Watch the full interview below, courtesy of the Asia Pacific Foundation.

George Malec on BNN Business Day: Panama Canal Special


Halifax Port Authority Vice President of Operations & Business Development George Malec was interviewed on the Business News Network's Business Day Panama Canal Special on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. He spoke about how the HPA recognized over 10 years ago that more and more big ships were going to be developed in the container trades globally. The HPA set out to make the port ready for that and focused all investment and strategic development around the reality that more shipping lines are going to invest in these bigger container ships. Short-Sea Shipping Opportunities for Eastern Canada and New England - featuring American Feeder Lines


The 35th annual New England Governors/Eastern Canadian Premiers Conference in Halifax featured a panel on July 11, 2011, about "Short-Sea Shipping Opportunities for Eastern Canada and New England." Panelists were Maine Port Authority Executive Director John Henshaw, Massport Port Director Michael A. Leone and American Feeder Lines Chair and Co-founder Percy Pyne IV, with Halifax Port Authority President and CEO Karen Oldfield moderating.
