Port of Halifax participates in the Halifax International Security Forum
November 20, 2009, Halifax, NS - The Halifax International Security Forum was an inaugural event, the first of its kind in North America. The German Marshall Fund, in cooperation with the Federal Government organized this major security and defense conference in Halifax.
Karen Oldfield, President & CEO of the Halifax Port Authority represented the Port of Halifax during a November 21st panel discussion entitled "Protecting Ports-Threatening Trade".
"The Port of Halifax has moved to integration of systems, particularly with technology, to bring together facilities ranging from commercial to Navy to an oil refinery. Preparation leads to protection and forums like this one allow us to discuss best practices," said Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority, during the panel. “We can never be complacent, ensuring that security stays top of mind. We must work together to find ways to drive the business, yet ensure that trade is driven in a safe and secure manner."
On the panel with Karen were Earl Agron, Vice-President Security and Environment APL Ltd, Jonathon Spaner Commanding Officer U.S Coast Guard and the moderator was Paul Bril, Editorial Writer International Affairs De Volkskrant.
