Port of Halifax anticipating busiest cruise season to date

January 26, 2017, Halifax, Nova Scotia – The 2017 cruise season in Halifax will be the busiest to date. A record number of passenger visits and vessel calls will get underway on April 24, 2017 with the arrival of the Amadea, a Phoenix Reisen vessel. “We are very excited about the year ahead,” said Cathy McGrail, Interim Vice President, Operations, Halifax Port Authority.

Halifax Port Authority preparing for next stage in global shipping

The Halifax Port Authority has commenced a significant master planning exercise to prepare for the arrival of ‘ultra-class’ containerized vessels of over 10,000 TEU; large scale industrial mega projects; increasing larger cruise vessels; and how the Halifax Seaport District can complement the urban growth and revitalization currently underway in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth.

The Port of Halifax continues to see positive year-over-year cargo growth. Third quarter 2016 throughput volumes at the container terminals are up 16.1% year-to-date. Non-containerized cargo is up 19.4% year-to-date.
